Hot-rolled

Advantages: You can destroy the organization ingot casting, grain refinement of steel, and the elimination of microstructural defects, so that the tissue density of steel, mechanical properties improved. This improvement mainly reflected along the rolling direction, so that the steel to some extent, is no longer isotropic body; casting formed in the bubbles, cracks and loose, but also under high temperature and pressure welded together.

Disadvantages: After hot rolling, the steel inside non-metallic inclusions (mainly sulfides and oxides, and silicate) is pressed into sheets, stratification (sandwich) phenomenon. Stratified so that the steel in tension along the thickness direction of the performance deteriorated significantly, and may shrink in the weld when torn between layers. Weld contraction-induced local strain to yield point strain often several times greater than the load caused by the strain; residual stresses caused by uneven cooling. Residual stress in the absence of external force within the self-equilibrium stress, a variety of cross-section of hot-rolled steel have this kind of residual stress, usually the larger steel section size, the greater the residual stress. Although the self-equilibrium residual stress, but under the external force on the steel members still have some performance impact. Such as deformation, stability, fatigue, etc. may have a negative effect.

Cold-drawn (that is at room temperature, after cold drawing, cold, cold drawn steel sheet or strip so cold to be processed into various types of steel.)

Advantages: forming speed, high output, and does not damage the coating, can be made into a variety of cross-sectional form, needs to adapt to the conditions of use; cold-drawn steel can produce significant plastic deformation, thereby increasing the yield of steel point.

Disadvantages: 1. Although the molding process has not been hot plastic compression, but there are still residual stress within the cross-section, the overall and local buckling of the steel the characteristics of the inevitable impact; 2 cold-drawm style is generally open section, making the cross-section of the free low torsional stiffness. Prone to bending when in reverse, when the pressure is prone to torsional buckling, torsional performance is poor; 3 cold-rolled steel wall into smaller plates converge in the corner and no thicker to withstand localized concentrated load capacity is weak.

Difference of hot-rolled and cold-drawn:
1, cold formed steel sections appear to allow local buckling, which can make full use of bar-buckling of the bearing capacity; and hot-rolled steel section does not allow local buckling occurs.

2, hot-rolled steel and cold rolled steel residual stress causes are different, so the distribution of the cross section are quite different. Cold-formed steel sections on the type of residual stress distribution is curved, and hot rolled steel or welded steel cross-section is thin-film residual stress distribution.

3, hot-rolled steel free high torsional stiffness than the cold-rolled steel, so the torsional properties of hot-rolled steel is better than cold-rolled steel.
